Producer Jamie Gordon and former MTV scripted programming chief Maggie Malina have launched Rommi, a New York–based studio making live-action romance “micromovies” for social platforms, Variety reported exclusively on October 1, 2026. Publishers Weekly carried a matching industry brief the same day.
Gordon is CEO; Malina is head of content. Per both trades, Rommi will develop original rom-com stories with established romance authors for the vertical format before those stories appear as books, and will also adapt existing romance novels. The first original, Drive Me Mad, from an idea by Ali Rosen (Unlikely Story), is slated to debut in October. Further original projects named in the coverage include work with Emma Grey (The Last Love Note) and Debbie Rigaud (Simone Breaks All the Rules). Book adaptations on the slate include Brittainy Cherry’s The Mixtape and Kate Robb’s This Spells Love (Dial, per PW).
Rommi is partnering with Morgann Book and Thomas Johnston of Bookish Media on the slate. Publishers Weekly notes Rommi is positioning itself as a publisher-independent vertical studio in a format where Harlequin has separately pursued AI-assisted micro-dramas; a Rommi spokesperson told PW the studio will not use AI to generate its films.
